Stamperia di Martinengo. Italian Textile Printing Leader
Success Story of Stamperia di Martinengo
Founded in 1974 and headquartered in Martinengo, in the province of Bergamo, Stamperia di Martinengo is today a leading Italian company in the textile printing sector.
With four rotary printing machines and eleven digital inkjet machines, including three newly installed units, the company has a total printing capacity of more than 100,000 meters per day.
On every printing machine at Stamperia di Martinengo, more than 20 meters of fabric are printed every minute on average.
The fabric then goes through steaming, washing, stentering, and finishing processes before becoming raw material for major fashion apparel brands.
The company has carried out a revamping of its wastewater treatment plant in order to strengthen its capacity to treat its effluents, through a plant upgrade that maximizes volumes and recycling while increasing system automation.
The plant is therefore managed with two oxidation/denitrification lines and a new activated carbon line, which enables the reuse of 10% of the treated water.
A key pillar of Stamperia di Martinengo’s production processes and market success is the IT system implemented by Datatex, the Textile Solutions Group company specialized in ERP solutions for the textile industry.
Stamperia di Martinengo uses NOW ERP by Datatex, the leading vertical ERP solution for the textile industry, with customers in 45 countries and more than 22,000 active users.
NOW ERP features a web-based architecture, and the technology used to develop it is based on the Java J2EE (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) standard.
This ensures flexibility of use on any browser-enabled device, including smartphones and PDAs, as well as easy integration with other software.
NOW ERP Modules Used by Stamperia di Martinengo
Stamperia di Martinengo uses the following NOW ERP modules:
- BASE: the core of NOW; it feeds and connects all other modules, centralizes data, and ensures the continuous flow of information across all business areas.
- PURCHASING: provides full control over raw material procurement processes.
- PRODUCTION: ensures full control, planning, and traceability of production processes, starting from the generation of production requests.
- SALES: enables end-to-end control of the entire sales order management cycle, from the initial customer request to order fulfillment, invoicing, and returns.
- INVENTORY & LOGISTICS: supports efficient warehouse logistics management, improving and simplifying goods storage organization.
- COSTS: the module designed to manage complex cost calculations and provide accurate, detailed financial information, in connection with the well-known Business Intelligence solution for which NOW acts as an effective data collector.
In addition, Stamperia di Martinengo uses Datatex CAMS, the software solution that tracks, records, and collects all textile production progress. CAMS monitors production in real time across all machines, manages meter counts and labeling for all produced and shipped items, automatically detects machine stoppages, records the actual productivity of operators and shifts, and supervises machine status.
Stamperia di Martinengo also makes extensive use of the Business Intelligence module offered by Datatex, for data processing and analysis. This transforms data into meaningful information for business analysis and decision-making.
Stamperia di Martinengo’s Perspective
What are the strengths and winning characteristics behind Stamperia di Martinengo’s success in the market, as a leading company in textile printing in Italy?
Responsiveness is at the heart of our success, together with the high quality of our processes and customer service.
We are ready and responsive both in purchasing and in dealing with international market developments. Recently, for example, we built up polyester fabric stocks in anticipation of imminent price increases linked to the complex global geopolitical situation.
We are also always responsive and flexible when it comes to customer requests. In our sector, the evolution of production methods is generally moving toward digital printing, which compared with rotary printing offers greater flexibility and versatility.
It makes color and design changes easier even for small quantities and short runs, allowing greater product customization and broader possibilities for “photographic” designs.
For this reason, we are investing heavily in inkjet machines, and we recently purchased three new digital printing machines. At the same time, we also work with traditional printing, with four rotary machines, which deliver excellent results, at more competitive costs, for simple designs and for large quantities and long runs of each individual design.
We also have the ability to diversify in the market across highly varied customer targets, covering every segment from Premium Market to Fast Fashion, and we are able to work on any type of fabric.
Fabrics of all kinds arrive at our facility in folded pieces and are then transformed, also with the support of subcontractors, into rolls and large beams. The rolled product is then passed through the RAM (stenter), a machine around 30 meters long in which the fabric is stretched and prepared to enter the printing machine. At this stage, the RAM machines run at 40 meters per minute.
The production process then continues with printing, followed by steaming, washing, and finishing operations, and concludes with inspection and quality control.
We are leaders in Italy in the printing of sustainable fabrics, which today represent the majority of our production, while of course we also work with traditional fabrics.
How do Datatex and Textile Solutions Group products, solutions, and services help make Stamperia di Martinengo’s operations more efficient?
We have been satisfied Datatex customers since 2012, and with NOW ERP by Datatex we are able to benefit from:
- easy and complete integration with machines and with other departmental and management systems, all revolving around the NOW ERP core
- automatic data exchange with selected customers
- real-time production monitoring
Which Datatex functions and solutions do you value the most?
We would especially highlight the following NOW ERP by Datatex functions, which are strategic for us:
- Warehouse movement management
- Production order management
- Industry 4.0 integration: data is exchanged from the machines to NOW through a direct and highly efficient connection between the machinery, the ERP system, and CAMS. This makes it possible to monitor processes in real time, record the full history of production and team activities, and capture data not only from printing machines but also from non-printing machines such as washing, steaming, and wastewater treatment systems.
- Product traceability and the ability to immediately trace back from the sales invoice to the raw fabric used, and vice versa. With NOW ERP, it is easy to reconstruct the history and origin of every product. This is an essential foundation for obtaining textile certifications, which are now crucial to remaining competitive in the market.
