Interview with Mr. Jodh Raj and Mr. Akash Jain from Tessitura Monti
Tessitura Monti India Pvt Ltd – Heir to a centuries-old textile tradition, Tessitura Monti India was founded in 2001 as part of the Tessile Monti Group, a historic Italian company founded in 1911 and known worldwide for the quality of its shirt fabrics produced for luxury and high fashion brands.
Today, Tessitura Monti India—which has been part of the M/s Hi-Fabrique Inc. Group in Bangalore since 2022—has over a thousand employees and a factory covering more than 53,000 square meters in Kolhapur, where it produces luxury fabrics for shirts using fine Giza & Supima cotton.
Tessitura Monti India aims to continue a tradition of excellence in textiles, while at the same time introducing elements of innovation and modernization into its product range. How is your company structured today, and what are its winning characteristics and strengths?
Our company today is structured to ensure agility, quality, and sustained innovation across every stage of fabric creation. We have blended the Italian class with Indian Entrepreneur spirit. We bring in true Skill with mass scale production and speed on table: this becomes a lethal combination.
Tessitura Monti India produces shirt fabrics for the luxury market. Over the last year, the luxury sector has been going through a difficult phase worldwide, although there are now signs of recovery. While the shirt industry has been struggling for many years, shirts remain an important and highly appreciated product. As an entrepreneur and privileged observer of the sector, how do you see the global luxury market today, and specifically the shirt market? How is the sector evolving?
The Luxury segment had seen a slight slowdown in last couple of year, but it is still a sizeable market, my personal opinion is there is nothing to worry about it is just a cyclical turn , we feel there is tremendous scope for more players and innovative thinkers in luxury market this gap can be filled from entrepreneurs of new age economy, Shirt plays the most important role in men’s fashion, and in this digital age every brand which focuses on Its segment with long term goals , quality and clarity of thought has a huge market. In fact, luxury market is growing everywhere, particularly in Asia, where income is growing very fast and people are spending more on luxury brands then before.
Moreover, fabric and shirt manufacturing is a very costly affair in Europe, and hence majority luxury brands are turning to India, being a trusted country than others. Most of the European companies are closing and hence it benefits companies like us.
India is one of the world’s giants in textile production, with a textile industry—heir to a thousand-year-old tradition—that represents a fundamental pillar of the country’s economy, and with consolidated global leadership in certain sectors (for example, India is now, together with China, the world leader in cotton production). What is the current situation in the Indian textile sector and what challenges does it face in the current international context?
When you talk of natural fabrics, India is well poised to be a leader in the world, factors like Domestic demand, the eco system in SE Asia, and make in India Initiatives of the govt. When we discuss about man-made fabrics China is way ahead, Moreover India is well established to produce small lengths, where as China is for huge quantities. Hence in luxury segment where you need small numbers, India is way ahead to China in Natural fabrics, such as Cotton, Linen, Silk and wool.
One of the most important challenges, we face is changing the mindset of our people that we can deliver and lead the world.
Tessitura Monti India, with regard to digitization and IT management, is a customer of Datatex, the ERP specialist of the TSG – Textile Solutions Group, a leader in vertical IT solutions for the textile industry. How important is it today for a textile company to have effective digital control over production? And how do Datatex – TSG solutions help your company to be efficient and innovative?
Today’s world digital control is as important as physical control in textile manufacturing; we have just started using new Datatex solution software and will be able to comment after 6 months of use. Datatex will definitely help us, by innovating further into AI etc.
